I'm not going to go into extreme detail - if you like Miyazaki's other work, you'll recognize a lot of his stylistic influences present here. However, The Cat Returns is also missing a lot of the wit that makes Miyazaki's other films succeed, and simply put, it cannot measure up to his true masterpieces like Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service.
