Kaze No Stigma: Season 1 Part 1 - Wind Top Quality

I'm not going to comment on price since I rent anime these days. Buying just gets too expensive. That being said...

I noticed that the editorial review of Kaze no Stigma is particularly scathing, and unnecessary in my opinion. Ayano and Kazuma's personalities fit their magic attributes quite nicely. She is far from being a Mary Sue, and his sarcasm is a large part of the humor in this series. I was wary of the "reluctant allies" aspect from the very beginning, and was worried that the characters, as well as the story would be too stereotypical. Upon Ayano's introduction, I had resigned myself to watching her being too headstrong for her own good. Concerning Kazuma, I thought he would be a jerk through the whole series, and to be honest, my first thought was "Oh great, he's going to be the Inuyasha type." To my delight, I was wrong.

The character interactions are really enjoyable. The story IS interesting, and not at all predictable, and not only that, it progresses nicely. The story starts out with the family rivalry theme, but doesn't dwell on it for long. It's only part of the story long enough to gain insight into Kazuma's past, and facilitate his first contact with Ayano. After dispatching with that aspect of the storyline (for the most part), the following episodes help progress the character relationships.

Romance fans will be thrilled that Kaze no Stigma actually has a fairly tangible romance between the main characters. It's not lovey dovey, but it's definitely an intended part of the story. The ending is very nicely wrapped up also. Some would probably say otherwise because the villain clearly has intentions of returning. However, I am certain Kaze no Stigma would have had a second season had the creator not passed away, so that argument is neither here nor there.

As far as the dub goes, Funimation does it again. The voice acting is fantastic as usual, although Ren's voice (Josh Grelle) is a little whiny sounding until you get used to it. Just wait for the character himself to show his maturity and it isn't so bad afterwards. There are special features at the end of the dvds with the Japanese voice actresses that are definitely worth watching as they are just adorable.

Naruto Uncut Box Set, Volume 10 This instant

My family loves Naruto! We started buying the box sets after we had moved and didn't have cable. We now own all 16 uncut box sets and enjoy watching them over and over again!Get more detail about Naruto Uncut Box Set, Volume 10.

Naruto Uncut Box Set: Season Two, Vol. 1 Immediately

Like the previous box set volumes, this one is Naruto for a cheaper price. This volume has 26 episodes (Episodes 53-78) in both English and Japanese (with subtitles). As this is the uncut version, there is mild swearing and more blood than originally shown when this show aired on television. And again, the special features/extras aren't anything to rave about.

This particular volume covers many different arcs because so many different things are happening at the same time.

The first arc is the introduction of Jiraiya and his training Naruto in summoning a toad. I will admit, as wonderful as Jiraiya's character is, this part is a little slow at first but it does pick up speed towards the end.

The next arc is the Third Part of the Chunin Exams: The Final Rounds. We have Naruto vs. Neji, and Shikamaru vs. Temari, two excellent matches. And then the beginning of the long waited Sasuke vs. Gaara match up...

...which carries over into the next arc where Orochimaru and the Sand and Sound Ninja attack the Leaf Village. This is where everything breaks off into many different stories. We have the Orochimaru fighting The Third Hokage , Sasuke chasing after Gaara, Kankuro and Temari, Naruto & co. chasing after them as well, and the beginning of the Naruto vs. Gaara fight. Strangely enough, this volume does not cover the entire arc. This volume ends with Orochimaru and the Third Hokage still struggling against each other, and Naruto still taking on Gaara and the Shukaku sand spirit. I found it strange that this arc was not compiled together in its entirety in this box set, but it is a long arc so I guess it couldn't be helped.

Again, this is a good buy for the person that is just looking to buy the episodes for cheap. I highly recommend this set if you don't already have the dvds.Get more detail about Naruto Uncut Box Set: Season Two, Vol. 1.

One Piece: Season One, Third Voyage Best Quality

Part three of Funimation's much beloved redub of One Piece. It's not that crappy Saturday morning version, I assure you. Uncut and unedited the way it's supposed to be.

For this stretch of episodes, it's nonstop action. We get the conclusion of the Baratie Arc and jump straight into the Arlong Arc. The two main villains appearing in these episodes are Don Krieg and Arlong. Sanji officially join the crew, and we get to look at Nami's backstory. One Piece really hits it's stride with these episodes, and there's nary a fluff episode in sight.

Special mention should go for episodes 35 and 36, Nami's backstory. I was concerned that the dub would lose the emotional weight of the story, but I was pleasantly surprised when the english VA for Nami managed to bring the right emotional sting to the role.

And don't foget to watch the commentary, you're paying for it, after all.Get more detail about One Piece: Season One, Third Voyage.

Shigurui: Death Frenzy Complete Box Set [Blu-ray] Get it now!

This is not an anime for kids and immature people. This anime is great for people who enjoy watching great character development and great story. More of a Drama animation then an action anime, but the build up to the actions just make the actions that much greater. The art throughout is just really beautiful.

For those that are used to watching anime intended for kids, know that this anime have adult themes, blood and gore, and a lot of talking since it's focused all on the story, so if you don't like any of the above this one is probably not for you.
This anime is intended for mature adults who likes serious dramas. So I think even those who usually don't watch anime will appreciate this.

There is no proper ending yet, but it doesn't matter. It's like a roller coaster ride, you'll enjoy every second of that ride before the end and that's where the fun part is. 5 stars for this epic and great anime.Get more detail about Shigurui: Death Frenzy Complete Box Set [Blu-ray].

I am an Anime' fan and this is right up there with my top 10 favorite Anime' episodes and deserves the top ranks for Action, Adventure, Drama, Love & Romance. I haven't always been a Witchblade fan and did read up on the original comic books from Top Cow and find that the series in my book is original and very well thought out.

I have already watched certain episodes more than once and plan on watching the entire series again as many times as time will allow!

Pokemon Heroes: The Movie Order Now

Pokemon Heroes: Latios and Latias is the fifth film released for Pokemon. The film clocks in at 71 minutes, and it's the right length for the story being told in the film. The pacing of the film is perfect; as a viewer, I didn't feel it was taking too long or that it was going too quickly. Like the other Pokemon films, an attempt was made to combine computer graphics with the 2D animation; unfortunately, just like in the other films, the computer animation stood out too much from the 2D animation and called too much attention to itself.

On this disc, the short "Camp Pikachu," which was shown before the film in Japanese theaters, is included as one of the special features. In this short, the Pichu brothers fall off of the train they're riding on top of. They run into Pikachu, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Phanpy, Corsola, Togepi, Psyduck, and Wynaut. They work together to try to get the Pichu brothers to the train station to catch another train. Meowth and Wobbuffet also make a cameo appearance.

Another special feature is "Location Scouting in Venice." This runs for about two minutes, and it shows the director and some of the crew scouting out locations in Venice. This is intercut with footage from the actual film that match what the director and crew are seeing in the city. "Animation Stages" includes six sequences. By using the angle button, you can see the 2D elements, the 3D elements, and the final version of the sequence.

"The Characters of Pokemon Heroes" includes six Pokemon: Kabutops, Aerodactyl, Ariados, Espeon, Latias, and Latios. For each Pokemon, there are several still images of the Pokemon, along with writeups for them (describing their personality and other traits, as well as information on its species, type, height, weight, ability, and evolution).

The "Pokemon Heroes Trivia Game" has you use the remote to select the answers for seven questions, and the seven questions are chosen randomly. If you get the question right, you see a clip of the film that is connected to the question. If you get a question wrong, the word "WRONG" appears on the screen, and the male voice over tells you that you got the answer wrong. Personally, the male voice over actor (who explains how to play the game, reads the questions out, tells you if you're wrong, and tells you how you do at the end) sounds rather bored when he's delivering his lines.

Pokemon Heroes is a good film. While this DVD release is better than the DVD releases for some of the earlier Pokemon films, I think the special features could have been a little better. If you're a fan of Pokemon, you should have this film in your collection.Get more detail about Pokemon Heroes: The Movie.

Soul Eater: Part 4 Right now

The end has finally come -- DMWA has launched an all-out war on its witch/kishin enemies, to stop the madness that is overwhelming the world.

"Soul Eater Part Four" may be a few episodes shorter than the last three box sets, but the ending of this deliciously Halloweeny series makes up for it by being crammed with plot. There's dark plot twists, rebellion, insanity and slashing magical action -- and the big downside is that it ends without promise of any continuation.

As Arachne's madness-enhancers rev up, Medusa offers Lord Death a simple deal: vital information about the Kishin in exchange for her safety. After she leaves, the increasingly crazed Stein wanders out after her.

And soon everyone is preparing for their own missions: Black Star, Tsubaki, Soul Eater and Maka are going to join Death's armies, and attack Arachne and the Kishin; Death the Kid heads for a devastated city to retrieve the last magical item; and Crona and Marie set out to rescue Stein from Medusa. Both Kid and Maka are having doubts about whether they're doing the right thing, especially since Maka is worried about what will happen when Crona encounters his evil mother.

So while the DMWA's forces clash with Arachne's armies, Maka and Soul break away and attack Medusa -- but with an insane Stein on her side, they may not be able to win. And even if they do win, will the three teams' combined strength be enough to defeat the deadly Kishin? And what lengths will Death go to in his battle against Arachne and Asura -- and will he be able to succeed at last?

The manga is still going strong, but "Soul Eater Part 4" is definitely the end of the anime series. All the major plot threads are woven together in a dense, strong rope without a shred of filler of fluff, important questions are answered (who is Eibon? What does the Brew do?), and there's one brilliant magical fight after another. The only major problem is that it's the end.

The writers spend the first few episodes setting up the various battles that the characters are about to embark on, as well as adding a little humor amidst all the grimness (Death and Death Scythe mocking Medusa's underwear). But after that it's one dark, bloody battle after another, Stein's growing insanity (completely with bloody moons and creepy little kids), and some truly brilliant twists (the use of the Brew is absolutely AWESOME). The one flat part: the final attack on Asura is... cheezy.

It's also zero hour for the main characters, all of whom have to grow up in their own ways. Maka and Death the Kid begin to doubt everything they've ever been taught, including their trust in Lord Death. Soul has to deal with his inner imp once and for all, and Crona desperately tries to atone for his sins against his friends. Even Black Star is confronted by a rather sinister anecdote about his late father (who had a very similar personality), but refuses to give up.

The grand finale of "Soul Eater" is indeed grand -- action-packed, plot-heavy, and a satisfying finale for a great anime series. The only downside is that it's OVER.Get more detail about Soul Eater: Part 4.

Cheap Naruto Uncut Box Set, Vol. 16

My favorite character in Naruto is Gaara, so I like it when he's in the story. Even though this isn't part of the original story line, I'm happy they decided to put him in a least a part of the fillers. yes and Gaara's fight is the best fight out of all of the filler episodes. yes the filler's dragged on and it felt like I was seeing the same thing over and over with different characters but this was a great closing to all the dragging on. I was just basically going through the motion watching all of this b/c I love Naruto I have to watch alllll the episodes so I stuck with box set 11 through 16 and my eyes finally got bigger as soon as GAARA OF THE DESERT appeared.Get more detail about Naruto Uncut Box Set, Vol. 16.

Buy Naruto Uncut Box Set: Season One, Vol. 2

These box sets are wonderful for the person that just wants to buy the episodes for cheap. This set includes the English dub version and the original Japanese version (with subtitles). As indicated, this is the uncut version, so there will be mild swearing and more blood than originally broadcasted on television. And again, the special features aren't really special.

This set has 27 episodes in it (Episodes 26-52). The first episode is actually a recap episode, so really you're only getting 26 new episodes. This volume covers 2 story arcs:

The first arc centers around the Second part of the Chunin Exam, in the Forest of Death.

The second arc is the Preliminary Rounds where Naruto and the other ninja face off against each other in One-on-One matches.

And the last episode in this volume includes the first appearance of Jiraiya.

A lot of good juicy stuff going on in this volume. We get some major character and plot development. It's not a volume to be missed. If you just want the episodes for cheap, then this is a good buy for you.Get more detail about Naruto Uncut Box Set: Season One, Vol. 2.

Order Naruto Shippuden Box Set 2 (Special Edition)

Since 1999, "Naruto" created by Masashi Kishimoto ("Karakuri") has been one of the most popular anime and manga series in Japan and has easily become a favorite best selling anime/manga series among fans all over the world.

For the anime series, since 2002, "Naruto" lasted until 2007 with a total of 220 episodes. The series would follow the adventures of a boy named Naruto Uzamaki, who may not be the brightest ninja from the Konoha Village but he makes it up with heart and also tremendous power as the killer beast known as the nine-tailed fox has been sealed within him.

Earlier in the series, the anime series focused on Naruto and his team members Sasuke Uchida and Sakura Haruno as they would go on adventures and learn to become a team and also honing their ninja abilities. The series would then begin to introduce other young ninjas from the village who Naruto would be paired up with and the young ninjas would take on rival clans to helping people in need. But somehow as the series continued, Sasuke Uchida would then go off on his own personal mission to stop his brother Itaki Uchida, who murdered the whole Uchida clan and his family, only leaving Sasuke alive.

Within those six years, we have seen Naruto and his friends grow as friends and also in their abilities. For Naruto, all he has wanted is to become the next Hokage (the leader of the village) when he grows older and to help his friends accomplish missions. He knows that to be a good leader, he will need to get stronger so he can protect the village once he grows older. Of course, there is so much involved in the "Naruto" anime series and what makes its special is its humor, its action but also how well the series integrates so many characters but yet features a good number of character driven episodes that makes the viewer appreciate many of the characters in the series.

"Naruto", the first series ended with the young ninja leaving to train with Jiraiya for two-and-a-half years.

Here we are now with "Naruto Shippuden" (Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles), a sequel to the "Naruto" series and with the release of the second volume featuring episodes 14-26.

In the first volume, Team Kakashi which consists of Kakashi, Naruto and Sakura are dispatched to the sand village after news that the Akatsuki (a criminal organization which includes powerful ninjas who defected from their villages and a group which include Sasuke's brother Itachi) members Deidara and Sasori have attacked the village and are after Gaara. While the three hurry to get to the sand village, Lady Tsunade sends out Team Guy to provide as support (consisting of Might Guy, Rock Lee, Neji Hyuga and Tenten).

With Gaara taken hostage by the Akatsuki, Gaara's brother Kankuro tries to save him but is stopped by Sasori of the Red Sand who literally beats Kankuro and injects him with poison, so he can suffer and die within three days. Fortunately, Team Kakashi arrives and Sakura is there to use her medic skills to stop the poison but now they must go and save Gaara with the help of one of the elders of the Sand Village, Grandma Chiyo. Who happens to also be the grandmother of Sasori.

Here is a brief spoilerless summary of the episodes 14-26 for "Naruto Shippuden Box Set 2: Season One" included on three DVD's:

DISC 4:

* EPISODE 14 - Naruto's Growth - The Akatsuki clan sends out Kisame to stop Team Guy while Itachi is sent to stop Team Kakashi.
* EPISODE 15 - The Secret Weapon is Called... - The battle continues as the Konoha ninjas take on Kisame and Itachi.
* EPISODE 16 - The Secret of Jinchuriki - Grandmother Chiyo reveals of what happens to Naruto and Gaara if their beasts are removed from them.
* EPISODE 17 - The Death of Gaara! - Akatsuki seal Gaara's beast which could be fatal for Gaara.

DISC 5:

* EPISODE 18 - Charge Tactic! Button Hook Entry!! - Team Guy is dispatched to destroy the barrier around the Akatsuki hideout.
* EPISODE 19 - Traps Activate! Team Guy's Enemies - What was believed to be barrier seals ends up being a trap for Team Guy.
* EPISODE 20 - Hiruko vs. Two Kunoichi! - Grandmother Chiyo briefs Sakura on Sasori and prepares her for battle.
* EPISODE 21 - Sasori's Real Face - Chiyo and Sakura vs. Sasori (who reveals his true form).

DISC 6:

* EPISODE 22 - Chiyo's Secret Skills - Chiyo has to resort to using new puppets against Sasori in battle.
* EPISODE 23 - Father and Mother - Sasori unleashes his Iron Sand technique on Chiyo and Sakura.
* EPISODE 24 - The Third Kazekage - Sasori uses the third Kazekage puppet against Sakura and Chiyo.
* EPISODE 25 - Three Minutes Between Life and Death - The battle continues between Chiyo, Sakura versus Sasori and with Sakura using an antidote to stop the poison, she has only three minutes to defeat Sasori before the antidote wears off.
* EPISODE 26 - Puppet fight: 10 vs. 100! - Chiyo uses her "Ten Puppets of Chikamatsu" versus Sasori's "One Hundred Puppet Manipulation Jutsu".

VIDEO:

One thing I noticed when it came to "Naruto" is that the series has had its share of well-animated and well-painted artistic backgrounds but then for some of the filler episodes, has had a decrease in quality. Fortunately, "Naruto Shippuden" looks awesome. I really like how the characters look much older and the emotions on the character's faces to the action that takes place in the Sand Village is pretty cool.

For the most part, these episodes for this box set is focused on battles, so a lot of the background scenes take place in a cave, above cliff-like areas or a hill. So, there is more focus on the characters and the fighting sequences rather than overall setting. But for the most part, the action was captured quite well and fans should be happy.

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

As for the audio, audio is pretty much Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 Bilingual (Japanese and English). Similar to a series like "Dragon Ball Z", with "Naruto", I have always enjoyed the voice acting of the English dub series. It's well done and the voices fit the characters very well. Especially Maile Flanagan's Naruto Uzumaki. Personally, I didn't think there would be a voice actor that could capture Junko Takeuchi's Naruto vocals and sure enough, Flanagan does a great job. But I have watched the series in Japanese and English and for the most part, voice acting for both soundtracks are well-done.

Since the series is front channel driven, for those with a modern home theater receiver probably will enjoy a more immersive soundscape by selecting stereo on all channels.

Subtitles are in English.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

"Naruto Shippuden Box Set 2 - Season One: Original & Uncut" comes with the following special features:

* Voice Actor Featurette: Sand vs. Leaf - Interactive Quiz Show - A video-based quiz show with the voice talents of "Naruto Shippuden" all competing (viewer needs to choose the correct answer and will be awarded points for getting 100 points). Competing are Michael Lindsay (Kankuro), Liam O'Brien (Gaara), Tara Platt (Temari), Maile Flanagan (Naruto), Kate Higgins (Sakura), Dave Wittenberg (Kakashi) and a mystery host!
* Relationship Chart: Team Guy - A text based feature showing the relationship of Team Guy: Might Guy, Rock Lee, Neji and Tenten.
* Production Art - Using your remote, you can view 16 production art images.
* Viz Media Trailers - Trailers for upcoming or current Viz Media releases.

EXTRAS:

"Naruto Shippuden Box Set 2 - Season One: Original & Uncut" comes with a slip case. It's important to note that the limited edition box set contains a mini ninja Naruto and an exclusive art card.

JUDGMENT CALL:

First, let me start out with how awesome "Naruto Shippuden" has been so far. No slowdown or any weak filler episodes, so far every episode since the first have been all action-packed and intense. "Naruto Shippuden Box Set 2 - Season One: Original & Uncut" continues that as the Konoha Leaf Village ninjas take on members of the Akatsuki.

But with this volume, Sakura fans will be happy with this latest volume as we see how much Sakura has grown up and how her training as a ninja has literally brought her power to new heights. Not only is she a medical ninja, she is now among the most powerful members with her ability to evade but also her ability of massive strength. Never before have we seen Sakura put into a situation like this. She was always the ninja that stood behind Naruto or Sasuke but no more.

To watch Sakura and Grandmother Chiyo take on Sasori, this battle was action-packed, well-planned and it doesn't end quickly, there is a good build up of episodes and the cliffhanger that you are left with at the end of volume six makes you wanting even more!

And also, it's not just Sakura that gets the spotlight in this volume, but we also get to see Team Guy in battle. Especially Might Guy as he takes on Kisame Hoshigaki and seeing Rock Lee, Neji and Tenten get into it as well. So, for the most part, it was great to see the characters all fighting in this episode and it makes you wonder when we will see Team 8 in battle.

Overall, there are quite a bit of surprises, twists and turns but for the most part, another exciting, action-packed volume of "Naruto Shippuden"! Definitely recommended!Get more detail about Naruto Shippuden Box Set 2 (Special Edition).

Shop For Escaflowne: Complete Collection

I am always on the look out for really good anime and I vaguely remember seeing part of this movie, but I was unsure at the time. I took a chance and decided to buy the complete set and loved it.

The really enjoyed every minute that I did't want to stop watching for even a minute. The funnt part that really had me really paying attention to the voices was when I heard Miroku's voice from the TV series Inuyasha. I couldn't beleive what I was hearing. Hitomi's voice also had me thinking that she sounded a lot like Songo from Inuyahsa also.

The story line was pretty amazing and it really sucks you into the characters. Sometimes I would get annoyed with Van and him not admitting that he cared a lot fro Hitomi, but in the end he was the only one that had a serious connection to her and always would. I'm a hopeless romantic so it really kinda got to me that 1) Van and Hitomi never kissed. She kinda kissed Allen and was in his arms on more than one occasion; 2)she leaves him and doesn't return to him, but she is able to see him briefly with wings and pendent showing; and 3)she has a thing for Armono and it seems as if he has a thing for her too, but apparently he doesn't and he looks like Allen.

Overall, I loved the series and it was beautifully drawn and portrayed in this series. Highly recommend this story.Get more detail about Escaflowne: Complete Collection.

Ichi [Blu-ray] Top Quality

I just saw this movie last night on European television (ARTE), with French sub-titles. My knowledge of Japanese cinema is sadly limited to Akira Kurosawa, and I had never heard the story of the blind swordsman everyone else is referring to. So perhaps my few modest words are for those who, like me, discovered this "legendary tale" with the film Ichi.

The story is beautifully told, and beautifully filmed as well. You really feel, during the whole (almost) two hours, you are in a different world, and this sharpens the senses into catching every glance, movement, stare and of course every element of body language... Haruka Ayase is breathtakingly beautiful -- delicate and yet showing remarkable inner strength from the very beginning. Not to mention her fascinating ability with her blade. The "blackhearted" Banki leader is almost a caricature of villainy and his Phantom-of-the-Opera style adds to his dark nature, making the ending all the more gripping.

I heartily recommend this film, and can tell you I enjoyed every minute of it. The flashbacks are cunningly done and do not confuse the viewer as they sometimes tend to do. Ichi's resilience, so well portrayed by Haruka Ayase, shines throughout the film and her image will stay with all of you lucky enough to see this extraordinary film! I will certainly buy the DVD, when it comes hopefully with something more of a bonus than just the trailer.Get more detail about Ichi [Blu-ray].

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad - The Complete Series Get it now!

Well, I must admit that I wasn't too crazy about this series. I started watching it on the FUNIMATION channel at night and got hooked! I caught the last few episodes, so when it was over, I had to get the DVD set and watch from the beginning. I ordered and received the DVDs right before Christmas and I haven't been able to stop watching!!! It's not the acting that has me hooked -- it's the band members and how they interact with each other. I've never been in a band, but I've always been a music lover of all types of music! (Guess it has something to do with me being an Army brat growing up in Germany!) The songs are amazing -- I am now a lover of the bass guitar -- been on the internet looking for all the CDs this anime references (Jimi Hendrix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kurt Cobain, Nirvana & hell, maybe even Rage Against the Machine).

This anime is not for very young kids; I would say teenagers and older and that's only because they use the work f*** and as***** alot!!!!

For those of you who love music with heart and meaning, this series is for you!!! For those of you who have ever been in a band, wanted to join a band, or been a fan of those obscure, unknown bands playing in some dive, you'll love this series even more so!!!Get more detail about Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad - The Complete Series.

Dragon Ball Z Double Feature: Tree of Might / Lord Slug (Steelbook) Buy Now

I remember watching these as a kid in the Cantonese dub, and loving it. All these years later I can re-watch them in the original Japanese dubbings and it is still a lot of fun. I found after watching the entire series, that I infinitely enjoyed the movies more than the TV episodes themselves, because they more quickly got to the point and the plot wasn't massively drawn out(something I think they are rectifying in Dragon Ball Kai). These two are no different, but what I liked was the content itself.

What made these two movies stand out was the fact that it didn't just take brawn to beat the villain, it took brains...particularly in the case of Lord Slug. While fun, it gets a little cumbersome to have to watch them just butt heads for about 2 hours when they do so much of that in the series anyways. I appreciated the better use of characters like Piccolo(one of my favorites), when the show itself is usually so centralized on Goku. These two movies are before Goku could turn Super Saiyan, and if you like Vegeta and Trunks, this is before their time. Compared to the other movies like the Broly saga, these movies were more satisfying to watch than just the average Dragon Ball fare.Get more detail about Dragon Ball Z Double Feature: Tree of Might / Lord Slug (Steelbook).

Inuyasha - Season 1 Decide Now

This is a pretty standard anime. It manages to capture all the diverse elements that come with anime, both the good and bad qualities. I won't explain the plot as it's already in the descriprion. This is a series I would recommand for newcomers to anime as a taste of what is to come. It's not a masterpiece, but it's enough to give you a your fix.

Pros: Rich with fedual japan culture and heritage, drawing inspiration from old jap folklore. Add to that the excellent musical score and themes.

EPIC battles with unique demons. Need I say more?

(english) Voice acting ranges from acceptable to masterful. The masterful being the main villain, who has such a malice filled voice, you can feel the evil.

Excellent antagonist. One of the few times over the top evil really works.

Cons: one dimentional stereotypical characters, nobody is capable of individual change or growing as a character. the only exception being they do bond as group (sorta) and the main character's feelings change only slightly (less hostile) towards the lead female. Which leads to the next problem.

The main character is an unlikeable, self centered, jerk. Most of you will get sick of this bastard right quick.

The Cult like following of fanboys and fangirls only serve to detract from the series appeal.

The Repeative power ranger quest/fight the monster of the week plot starts to wear on you after the first season, and it goes on for 3 more (unless that's the kinda thing you like)

After the first couple of episode, it becomes clear that the lead female serves no real purpose other than to draw in a female audience. And she's the one who sets the whole story in motion!

In the end, despite the hype, Inuyasha is a pretty standard staple of anime. It's not quite mediocre, but it doesn't reach the potential it could have. Mostly because the creators seemed bogged down to rush the story along with no real clear ending in mind, which stretched the series far beyond than probably needed. I reccomand for die hard fans of the series, and for newcomers and casual anime viewers. This one is a hit or miss series. You either loved it or hated it based on it's pros and cons, which ultimatly bring balance to it.Get more detail about Inuyasha - Season 1.

Lowest Price Gintama: Collection 1 (2pc) (Ws Sub)

Since 2003, "Gin Tama" (which means "Silver Soul" has been a manga series that has entertained many "Shonen Jump" fans. Written and illustrated by mangaka Hideaki Sorachi, the popular manga received an anime adaptation and has aired in Japan since 2006 on TV Tokyo and has since surpassed over a 100 episodes. The anime series now makes its debut in the US on DVD courtesy of Sentai Filmworks with the first 13 episodes in "Gintama - Collection 1.

The series is directed by Shinji Takamatsu ("After War Gundam", "School Rumble" series, "SD Gundam"), series composition by Akatsuki Yamatoya ("Buso Renkin", "Blue Dragon", Soul Eater", "Transformers: Cybertron"), character designs by Shinji Takeuchi ("Geneshaft", "Heat Guy J", "Planetes") and music by Audio HIGHS.

"Gin Tama" is a series that takes place during the Edo Period (Tokyo - 1860's) but in this alternate reality of the Edo Period, aliens known as Amanto have conquered Japan and because of the war against the samurai's, the Amanto have banned swords in public and are now co-existing with the humans (more like humans are forced to co-exist with the Amanto). Also, technology has been shared with the people of Japan allowing space travel, giving them access to cars, mopeds, television and more.

The series focuses on the silver haired Gintoki Sakata and his two freelancers who will perform odd jobs for a fee, but sometimes these odd jobs turn out to be more destructive than realized.

The main characters of "Gin Tama" are:

* Gintoki Sakata - The owner of "Odd Jobs Gin". Often lazy, likes reading manga, picking his nose and is late on his rent payments. Willing to take on odd jobs for a living but is also an excellent swordsman who despises the Amanto and those who co-exist with them. Despite the sword ban, Gintoki is defiant towards the Amanto and carries a sword.
* Shinpachi Shimura - A teenager who wants to learn the ways of the samurai and thus becomes a freelancer at Odd Jobs Gin. Often the voice of reason but is hardly listened to and is often a person who receives some sort of punishment. Lives with his sister Tae.
* Kagura - An alien girl of the Yato Clan who looks human but has tremendous strength. Kagura flee to Earth to earn money but also to get away from her violent Yato heritage. In Earth, she has to hold an umbrella to prevent sunlight from damaging her translucent skin. Loves pickled seaweed, eating, money and often has a temper. She also is blunt about things that women don't say in public.

Other characters in the series include:

* Sadaharu - Kagura's pet, a large dog looking inugami. Loves to bite people and Kagura loves it because she takes his wanting to eat her as a form of playfulness. Often used as Kagura's vehicle.
* Otose - Owns Otose Snack House and the landlord for Gintoki. Loves smoking and doesn't appear to be offended when Gintoki refers to her as an old hag.
* Catherine - The feline female thief who works at Otose Snack House and at first, she seemed like a nice woman but in reality she's a trash talking person who can easily get into trouble.
* Ayame Sarutobi (Sachan) - An elite ninja who loves Gin. Only problem is that she's nearly blind without her eyeglasses.
* Isao Kondo - Commander of the Shinsengumi. A confident leader who has a low self-esteem when it comes to his rear end sprouting like an afro. Infatuated with Shinpachi's sister Tae.
* Toshiro Hijikata - The vice-commander of the Shinsengumi and loyal to Kondo. An excellent fighter.
* Sogo Okita - The best swordsman of the Shinsengumi but prefers to carry a bazooka. He appears to not like his vice-commander.

Here is a brief spoilerless summary of episodes 1-13 for "Gin Tama - Collection 1 included on two DVD's:

DISC 1:

* EPISODE 1 - How Shinpachi becamea freelancer for "Odd Jobs Gin". The characters talk about how they can earn more money.
* EPISODE 2 - Continuing the odd job from the last episode and introducing the Shinsengumi, the police of the area.
* EPISODE 3 - Gin trains Shinpachi in the ways of the samurai. Introduction to Shinpachi's sister Tae.
* EPISODE 4 - How Kagura became a freelancer for "Odd Jobs Gin".
* EPISODE 5 - Odd Jobs Gin takes on a mission to deliver a package for an injured postman. Gintoki confronts the Shinsengumi.
* EPISODE 6 - Gintoki helps out the father of a pop star who wants to see his daughter.

DISC 2:

* EPISODE 7 - The group is given a mission to find the alien prince's octopus pet.
* EPISODE 8 - An episode focusing on the Shinsengumi and commander Isao Kondo's infatuation with Shinpachi's sister Tae.
* EPISODE 9 - After Kondo's humiliation, Shinsengumi's Toshiro Hijikata has his men going after the silver haired man who beat their commander.
* EPISODE 10 - An introduction to how Kagura found her pet, an inugami named Sadaharu.
* EPISODE 11 - The group is offered an odd job to find a dying man's first love.
* EPISODE 12 - An introduction to how the group met Catherine the thief.
* EPISODE 13 - The group is offered an odd job to find a missing woman.

VIDEO:

"Gin Tama" is presented in 4:3. Because the series is a comedy, character designs range from being detailed to being simple, depending on the scene. But there is a good amount of detail on the backgrounds but if anything, the anime series is respectful towards the illustration and artwork of creator Hideaki Sorachi.

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

As for "Gin Tama" is in Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0. Voice acting is well-done and for the most part, the audio is clear and what would expect from a TV series. For a more immersive soundscape, I chose to have my receiver set with stereo on all channels. But overall, the 2.0 track is good.

Subtitles are in English.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

"Gin Tama - Collection 1 features trailers for upcoming Sentai Filmworks releases on disc 1 and on disc 2 are the clean opening and closing animation.

JUDGMENT CALL:

"Gin Tama" is a hilarious anime and I have to say that it is quite unique and breathes new life to action/humor-based anime series that are featured on "Shonen Jump" such as "Bleach" and "Naruto".

The fact that "Gin Tama" takes place during the Edo Period and humanity was beaten by aliens and now co-existing with them and sharing technology is quite unique. But it's the characters that bring something different to the series. Unlike other "Shonen Jump" heroes, the characters of "Gin Tama" are just odd. The main protagonist, Gintoki is a booger picking, manga reading, lazy hero but when in battle, he's quick during his sword fights. Kagura seems like a sweet girl but she's perverted (although her bluntness is more of naivety) in the manner she speaks and has this intense strength that makes her quite scary and then you get the character Shinpachi who tries to be the voice of reason but ends up being the person who gets the raw end of the deal.

But what can you expect when you have an anime series titled "Gin Tama" which is an interesting name by Hideaki Sorachi which is used as a pun on the word "Kintama" which means testicles. "Gin Tama" is pretty much a comedy series as we see these odd people being lazy or on missions. There are jokes that parody Japanese pop culture and even several nods to other Shonen Jump titles in the series. But along with the comedy, there are episodes that have quite a bit of action scenes as Gintoki encounters quite a bit of alien enemies.

If anything, "Gin Tama" is a fun, hilarious and action-packed series but it's one of those series that is going to require your patience as there are over a hundred episodes in Japan. This first collection only contains the first 13 episodes and the fact the series is not yet completed in Japan, similar to other "Shonen Jump" series such as "Naruto" and "Bleach", this is a series that you want to make sure you are in it for the long run.

Overall, "Gin Tama" is a series that is unique and a lot of fun to watch. I definitely look forward to the next collection. Definitely recommended!Get more detail about Gintama: Collection 1 (2pc) (Ws Sub).

Discount Death Note II: The Last Name

Death Note II: The Last Name continues the adventures of the characters from the previous film. In this sequel, Light, (Tatsuya Fujiwara ) the homicidal son of the local police chief, continues his deadly game of cat and mouse with L, the quirky computer genius who eats only sugary snacks. These two are both incredibly smart and motivated by their own inner demons.

Plot: Light has weaseled his way onto the Akira task force, seeking to hide his own tracks. (Light is a serial killer who uses a mystic book to kill criminals for the `greater good. Unfortunately, he also kills good guys if they get in his way). L is suspicious of him, however has no proof. To add fuel to the fire, another shinigami Rem makes his presence felt and becomes the guardian of Light's new goth-lolita girlfriend. This shinigami has a conscience however and disapproves of Light and his tactics. Rem does something quite touching twice in the film, which made me really like this character, unfortunately he is no match for Light whose diabolical nature knows no bounds.

I really liked this film better than the first one, although I did feel that the devotion Light's girlfriend was a bit sickening, it added to the believability that Light was charismatic young man. I really liked Rem and hoped for a happy ending for him/her/it.

Overall, I felt this was better than the first film. It was good to see some resolution to the Light/L fight, and I really liked Rem who was a noble being.

Cheapest Naruto Uncut Box Set: Season One, Vol. 1

I've been a Naruto fan for a long time, and I've always wanted to support it and buy the official dvds. The thing is, I'm not rich. To pay $25-30 for about 4-6 episodes on a disc for a series that has 200+ episodes, why, I would go bankrupt. Then Viz decided to release these wonderful box sets. 25 episodes for about $30, that's something that I could work with. So I bought it and I was not disappointed.

The Season One, Vol. 1 box set contains the first 25 episodes of the series(both in English and Japanese with subtitles). It contains three story arcs:

The first story arc is the introduction of Naruto and the other main characters like Sasuke, Kakashi and Sakura.

The second arc is the "Land of Waves" arc with Zabuza and Haku, which in my opinion is an excellent start to the series.

And the third arc is of the first part of the Chunin Exams: The Written Exam.

The special features aren't anything special. Various previews for other stuff, Production art, and a Sketchboard to Episode feature for a couple of the episodes. The "Sneak Peek" at Naruto: Shippuden is just the opening to the series.

All in all, if you're looking to buy official Naruto dvds for cheap, this is the best option. I highly recommend it if you're a fan and you don't already have the dvds.Get more detail about Naruto Uncut Box Set: Season One, Vol. 1.

Cheap One Piece: Season 1, Second Voyage

Part two of the much anticipated Funimation redub of One Piece. It's not that crappy, saturday morning one from 4Kids. Uncut and unedited the way it was supposed to be seen.

This collection contains the end of the "Black Cat" Arc and the beginning of the Baratie Arc. There's also pair of self-contained episodes in between, including Zoro's Past. The major villains in these arcs are Captain Kuro and Commodore Don Kreig. Usopp formally joins the crew and we are first introduced to Sanji.

Often I hear people say, "One Piece doesn't get good until the Arlong Arc." I believe that's wrong. One Piece starts relatively strong, and only grows stronger as it goes along. So by the time of the Arlong Arc, it's really honed it's storytelling skills. But, in this collection, you have two really strong episodes, Zoro's Past and Sanji's Dream that showcase how story has really changed in shounen anime.Get more detail about One Piece: Season 1, Second Voyage.

Buy The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Complete Collection

**At Netflix this anime is listed as a 5 disc series. Disc 5 being labeled as "Bonus Material." I looked for info on disc 5 but all I could find was information concerning an extra music cd that comes with the Limited Edition box set (I believe). Please let me know if the bonus cd futhers the story in any way and I will revise this review.**

There are a lot of anime with unsatisfying endings, and ones that have decent endings but still leave tons of unanswered questions. However, I personally haven't seen many that have no ending whatsoever. MoHS would be the second, School Rumble was (if memory serves) the first.

It starts off perfectly fine. The idea that Haruhi creates and destroys just because she becomes unhappy, bored, depressed, etc, is interesting, but even more so because she has no idea that she is doing so. One starts to wonder if she will ever find out she's doing these things, or if her friends will ever tell her about what she's doing, or if they can find a way to...keep her from destroying the world without actually letting her know what's going on.

Sounds like a great, intriguing mystery right? Well, don't get too excited. About the time things start to get really good, the filler episodes start coming and don't stop. It's kind of like the creator got serious writer's block, and took the easy way out. Out of nowhere Haruhi starts acting like a (fairly) typical high school girl, and all the mysterious goings-on just...vanish.

I gave this series 4 stars though because it is actually entertaining. The animation is really nice, the characters are likable, and over all MoHS is a good series. Crispin Freeman and Wendy Lee are pro V/As. I have noticed quite a few people recommend watching in a certain order concerning episode numbers. Apparently, that way it seems like there is some semblance of an ending, but looking back, I don't think that would make much of a difference. It is what it is, as they say. With that in mind, I recommend renting instead of buying.

Bandai did a heck of a marketing campaign for this series. DVD extras include behind the scenes production shorts in Japan and America, as well as "The Adventures of the ASOS Brigade" featuring Patricia Lee (a.k.a the Pink Power Ranger) as Haruhi in a series of live action promo videos. The fact they spent so much time and money doing this for a series with no ending is, in my opinion, mystifying.

Shop For Vandread: The Ultimate Collection

Just finished watching this all the way through. I enjoyed it and the ending was just the right touch.
The only thing I didn't like was the OVA disk. Having to read subtitles for me takes me away from working on other things I do while watching a DVD. Since my players are in the Living Room, I feed the output from them to both the TV and computer in the front computer room so I can watch movies there too. This allows me to watch a good movie, etc. and work on computer related items at the same time. With a subtitled DVD, I have to "glue" to the monitor and that sort of takes away from other things I've doing. (Besides good titles SHOULD be watched more than once anyway.) That's my only complain re this DVD set. This OVA would have made an excellent way to watch a summary of the series if time was a consideration except for the subtitles.
Well worth the money otherwise.Get more detail about Vandread: The Ultimate Collection.

Naruto Uncut Boxed Set, Volume 6

Naruto Uncut Box Set 6 is a three DVD disc set that contains episodes sixty-six through seventy-eight of Naruto. The first and second discs contain four episodes, and the third disc contains five episodes and the special features.

The first extra is labeled as "Production Art." This consists of ten pages, which are model sketches of some of the Naruto characters. There is a sneak preview of Naruto Uncut Box Set 7, which runs four roughly four minutes. Next is "From Sketch to Screen," which contains eight pages of storyboards from episode seventy-eight. For each storyboard, you can choose to see the clip that the storyboard is for. You can also see the English credits in the "Extras" menu.

A link in the extras menu labeled as "Trailers" takes you to three trailers: Bleach, The Prince of Tennis, and Death Note. The link labeled as "Manga" includes an advertisement for Shonen Jump Magazine, an advertisement for the Naruto manga series, and a couple of advertisements for other Shonen Jump manga titles.

While I'm disappointed in the lack of special features in the set, I knew to expect it after seeing the previous five DVD box sets. However, if you're a Naruto fan that wants to collect all of the episodes on DVD, then the Naruto Uncut Box Set 6 would be a good addition to your DVD library.

In order to write this review, I checked out a copy of this DVD box set through the King County Library System.Get more detail about Naruto Uncut Boxed Set, Volume 6.

Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa [Blu-ray] Top Quality

This is a special edition on the two disc limited released in 2006. This is however much cheaper and for a reason too. This includes the two special with everything from the last release minus the post cards and the hardcover book. The cover is the same image but on a black armory case. The quality of this set is good but on the second disc, it would appear to be defected as the subtitle for the whole disc is unreadable with obvious flaws but the english extras are uneffected. This could be only my copy though. Great set for a great price, I got this for $17.99. Samurai 7 - Box Set [Blu-ray] Immediately

I absolutely love Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, I have watched it several times at the theatre and I own the dvd. I was really excited when I heard there would be an anime series based on this lengengary film. This anime is terrible! The characters have no depth, they are just caricatures. This anime could have been so much better but instead it is just a farce of the great film. The characters are the usual black and white good guy/bad guy. This is not an adult anime but for kids. The characters are plain stupid with no personality but the usual bad guy/good guy crap you see in the teeny bop anime. What was so great about Kurasawa's film was the depth of the characters meaning of what is good and bad. The philosophy, ethics, social roles/meanings, social commentary and morality of the great film is not even visible in this anime. The Seven Samurai was a great film that influenced other great films after its birth from the Magnificent Seven to Ocean's Eleven. If you love Kurosawa's great film, The Seven Samurai, don't even waste your time with this anime. Kurasawa must be rolling in his grave right now.Get more detail about Samurai 7 - Box Set [Blu-ray].

Robotech - Protoculture Collection Best Quality

I haven't seen the series since it came out when I was a kid. I happened to stumble upon it on the Fancast website and watched a few episodes. I was hooked again so bought this DVD set. This DVD set appears to have the same (sound effects, etc) as the one on fancast so you could sample it there. There are a few extra movies and clips in the DVD set. Others complained about the sound effects not being original, but I thought they were better than the original. Some of the extras include a few of the originally aired shows so you can compare intros, sounds, and the picture quality (Whoa! what a difference). If you were ever a fan, I would say this is the set to get.Get more detail about Robotech - Protoculture Collection.
